Ciarán Walsh was born in Carlow, Ireland (1980) and received an MA in 'Art in the Contemporary World' from the National College of Art and Design, Dublin (2007) and an earlier BA in 'Fine Art' from the Institute of Art, Design and Technology, Dún Laoghaire (2003). Since 2003 he has exhibited at various galleries and art-spaces in Ireland. Additionally he has developed a number of curatorial commissions and self-initiated projects. He currently lives and works in Berlin.
Walsh's work intermixes sculpture, video, drawings, texts and digital prints in both singular works and in conversational installations and stagings. Drawing upon on a range of reference material including historical sources, science-fiction film and marginal knowledge, the artist considers the problematic agencies wthin surfaces, subjectivity, fakery and performance. Throughout the work, there is a strong centrality of the bodily and of the hand-rendered, alongside a conscious reliance on economical materials, minimally framed scenarios, casual methods of fabrication and production, with an emphasis on the actions and movements of modelling, staging, enacting and re-configuring.
